Our story

Built so you never have to put your practice down

NaamAmrit started with a small, familiar frustration. Our founder is a devotee who wanted to keep up daily naam jaap through a busy workday — but the mala was never in hand at the right moment. Between meetings, on the commute, walking between rooms, the intention was always there; the counting wasn’t.

One thing was always present, though: the phone in the pocket. So the question became simple. What if you could continue your jaap without holding anything, tapping a screen 108 times, or carrying a mala or any special hardware? What if the app could quietly sense your naam — said softly or whispered, even with the screen off and the phone in your pocket — and let your mind stay on the naam, not the count?

Our mission

We want to make devotional practice effortless and private, anywhere. Not another tap counter, but a quiet companion that fades into the background so your devotion can come forward — at your desk, on a flight, lying in bed, or sitting in stillness at the temple. The technology should disappear. The practice should remain.

Privacy is the whole point

Your practice is sacred, and so is your privacy. Speech recognition and sound-based counting run on your own device — we never capture your microphone audio or sensor streams, and we don’t broadcast what or how you count. Only your counts are saved to your private account, so your jaap is safely backed up and never lost — and it stays between you and the divine.

An honest note

Hands-free counting is genuinely hard, and we’d rather be honest than oversell. Today you can count two ways: with Say it, softly say — or whisper — your naam and the app recognizes each repetition for an exact count; or with Chant, say your naam and the app counts each one by sound, so it keeps counting with the screen off and your phone in your pocket, eyes closed — with any earbuds or just your phone’s mic, no special hardware required. Our accuracy keeps improving with every release, and Apple Watch and Wear OS micro-tap are coming next. Joining early means you help shape what we build first — and you’ll feel the app get better in your hands over time.
