Hands-free mantra counting
Count your naam jaap hands-free — anywhere.
In a meeting, on a walk, before sleep. Softly say your naam and the app counts every repetition — even with the screen off and your phone in your pocket. No tapping a screen 108 times, no mala, no special hardware.
Works with any earbuds — or just your phone’s mic.
Your voice stays on your device. We’ll only email you about early access.
Two hands-free ways
Count without touching your phone
Say your naam with your phone in hand for an exact count, or pocket it and keep chanting with the screen off — each works with any earbuds or just your phone. Prefer to tap? Classic tap counting (and a dark, eyes-closed mode) are always there too.
Precise · screen on
Say it
Softly say your naam and the app recognizes each one for an exact count. Works with any earbuds — or just your phone's mic. Perfect when your phone's in hand.
Pocket it · screen off
Chant
Say your naam and it counts each by sound — so it keeps counting with the screen off and your phone in your pocket. Eyes closed, hands free, anywhere.
Coming next: gesture counting on Apple Watch and Wear OS — a flick or pinch of the wrist — plus a phone-tilt gesture for everyone without a watch.
How it works
Three steps to a deeper jaap
Set your intention
Choose your mantra and a target — 11, 27, 108, or a custom round. Set it once; the app remembers.
Choose how you count
Say your naam — with your phone in hand for an exact count, or pocketed with the screen off. Start, then put your device away.
Stay present
NaamAmrit counts silently in the background and gently signals when your round is complete — no glancing, no tapping.
Built on trust
Your practice is sacred. So is your privacy.
NaamAmrit is a quiet companion, not a data harvester. The technology fades into the background so your devotion can come forward.
Your voice stays on your phone
All counting — speech and sound — runs on your device. Your audio is never recorded or uploaded; only your counts are saved.
Backed up, never lost
Sign in and your counts are safely backed up to your account — so a lost or replaced phone never loses your jaap, and your practice follows you across devices.
Private by default
Your practice is yours. We don't sell your data, and we never share what or how you count.

Questions
Frequently asked
How does hands-free counting actually work?
NaamAmrit listens for your naam through any earbuds or just your phone's mic. Two ways: with Say it, softly say — or whisper — your naam and the app recognizes each repetition for an exact count, best with the phone in hand; with Chant, say your naam and it counts each by sound, so it keeps counting with the screen off and your phone in your pocket, eyes closed and hands free. Prefer touch? There's a classic tap counter and a dark, invisible tap mode too. You pick the mode, start, and put your device away. No tapping a screen 108 times, no mala, no special hardware. A gesture to count — a wrist flick or pinch on Apple Watch and Wear OS, or a phone tilt if you don't have a watch — is coming.
Do I need a smartwatch or special earbuds?
No — and that's the whole point. NaamAmrit works with just your phone or any earbuds you already own: with Say it, softly say — or whisper — your naam and the app recognizes each repetition for an exact count; with Chant, say your naam and it counts each by sound, so it keeps counting with the screen off and your phone in your pocket, eyes closed. No special hardware required. A gesture to count is coming — a wrist flick or pinch on Apple Watch and Wear OS, or a gentle phone tilt if you don't have a watch — for even more discreet counting in meetings or on the go.
Is it really silent and private?
Yes. Counting happens on your device and runs in the background. We don't broadcast, and your microphone audio never leaves your phone — only the count is saved. It also works fully offline.
Can I use my own mantra and target count?
Absolutely. Set any mantra and choose a target — 11, 27, 108, or a custom number of rounds. NaamAmrit remembers your setup for next time.
Is this only for one tradition?
No. NaamAmrit supports jaap, japa, simran, and mantra practice across Hindu, Sikh, and Buddhist traditions — and anyone who counts a mantra.
How much will it cost?
Pricing will be shown in US dollars (USD). We're a US-registered company. Waitlist members will get our best early-access pricing — we'll share details before launch.
Does it work with my smartwatch?
Not yet — and we'd rather be honest than overpromise. Today you count with just your phone: Say it (softly say or whisper your naam for an exact count) or Chant (say your naam and it counts by sound, screen off and phone in your pocket). Gesture counting is coming — a wrist flick or pinch on Apple Watch and Wear OS, or a gentle phone tilt if you don't have a watch — and waitlist members will hear the moment it's ready.
Which languages does the app support?
The app's interface is in English, Hindi, and Gujarati at launch, with more languages on the way. Your naam itself is never limited — you can set any mantra, in any script or language you practice in, and NaamAmrit simply counts it for you.
Is my data private?
Yes — privacy is built in. Counting happens on your own device and runs in the background. We don't record or upload your microphone audio, and the app works fully offline. What you chant, and how much, stays with you.
Can I use my own mantra?
Yes. Set any mantra you hold dear — Ram, Krishna, Om, Waheguru, or your own — and choose a target of 11, 27, 108, or a custom number of rounds. NaamAmrit remembers your setup so you can simply begin next time.
Do I need internet to use the app?
No. NaamAmrit works fully offline. Counting, your mantras, your targets, streaks, and history all live on your device — you can do your jaap on a flight, in a basement, or anywhere with no signal at all. Nothing today needs a connection — it'll only matter later for optional extras like cloud sync, which is on the way.
Will there be ads?
The free tier may show light, unobtrusive ads to help keep it free — never during an active jaap session, so they won't interrupt your practice. Premium is completely ad-free. We'd rather be upfront about this than surprise you later.
How accurate is Chant counting?
Honestly, it's a version one that keeps improving with every release. Chant counts your naam by sound so it can keep going with the screen off, and sensing sound with a machine is genuinely hard, so an occasional round may read one short or one over. If you want an exact count, Say it recognizes each naam precisely, and the tap counter is precise to the bead. We'd rather tell you this plainly than overpromise a precision no app can truthfully claim.
